“It was a lot easier than I thought it would be” – Morgan Riddle opens up on navigating high-profile tennis break-up

For a hefty period of time, Taylor Fritz' relationship with Morgan Riddle was one of the most prominent love stories in tennis. However, the pair have since gone their separate ways with the influencer stating the challenges it posed following their separation.

The duo first started dating back in 2020 amid the COVID 19 pandemic via the dating app Raya, used by celebrities. The couple soon became very well-known with Riddle regularly attending and supporting Fritz's tennis matches, overseeing a stark rise which saw him challenging for the biggest titles while cementing his status as a top 10 player.

While on the court it was going well, away from the pair would eventually split earlier this year. Rumours first started to float around with Riddle seemingly shutting them down quite quickly. However, the news would be confirmed by Riddle herself soon after.

With reports circulating she had made the switch to New York City, an Instagram post showcased her wearing a T-shirt reading “World’s Best Ex-Girlfriend.” This rapidly made the rounds in the tennis world and confirmed for good that both Fritz and Riddle were no longer a couple.

This news came in a period of Riddle's life where change was occurring in every corner. From moving house to changing job to going through a break-up, she had to deal with all three things at once while still being viewed in the public eye via her influencer and tennis routes.

Speaking to Elite Daily, the 29-year-old opened up on the tricky process she had to navigate, but offering the positive news that she dealt with it very well.

“It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, to be honest," she said. "I had mentally prepared myself for the worst. I think the top three most stressful things in life are moving, starting a new job, and going through a breakup. And I did all three in one week. So I was just like, ‘Bring it on.’”

She continued by encouraging other women to seek happiness via a break up if necessary, admitting that it would 'never get worse.'

“Something that I wanted to come out of it was to encourage other women to leave the situations if they weren't happy, and that not being happy is enough of a reason to leave. I've never seen a girl's life get worse after a breakup ever. I don't care who the man is. It will never get worse.”

While Riddle will no longer be supporting Fritz directly, her involvement in tennis is not coming to a sudden halt just like that. Her rise as an influencer was largely based around tennis, with an early statement showcasing her motivation to make tennis “cool again." While there was a lot of encouragement and backlash, Fritz came to her side and Riddle has since continued making content surrounding the sport. She is set to appear at the upcoming US Open, a tournament Fritz reached the final of in 2024.

On the court, 2026 has not been the most productive for Fritz. Injuries have plagued his schedule, which is normally jam-packed with tournaments. He failed to reach the quarter-final in the Australian Open or any of the Sunshine swing events. His highlight from the first few months was reaching the final of the Dallas Open, but even then that ended on a sour note with numerous championship points wasted against American foe Ben Shelton.

While not notoriously known for his expertise on clay, that would not matter as he skipped most if it while battling with injury, losing in the first round of Roland Garros.

The positives to take was that he was back fit and fresh for the grass swing. Following two titles and a semi-final at Wimbledon in 2025, he had high expectations, something he could not live up to. A brace of final runs in Stuttgart and Halle ended in defeats while Alexander Zverev stormed past him in the last-eight at SW19 with his injury issues flaring up at an untimely moment.

At the fourth time of asking, he finally got his first title of 2026 in the form of the DC Open in a straight sets win over Rafael Jodar. However, an early exit in the Canadian Open has given him time to rest and prepare for the Cincinnati Open with the US Open firmly on his radar. His last three appearances at Flushing Meadows have resulted in quarter-final showings at the bare minimum. Opportunity awaits in New York as the 28-year-old gears up for a hugely important stint on home soil.
