The nominees for the class of 2025 ballot of the International Tennis Hall of Fame have been revealed, with retired tennis superstar
Maria Sharapova headlining the list.
A former World No.1, Sharapova has been nominated alongside brothers
Bob Bryan and
Mike Bryan, who are undeniably the most accomplished men's doubles team in tennis history. The three join doubles specialist Daniel Nestor as nominees up for induction in the Player Category.
Class of 2025 could feature numerous career Grand Slam champions
In addition to being former World No.1's in their respective disciplines, the aforementioned stars have also achieved career Grand Slams. Sharapova accomplished this feat in singles, having won five Grand Slam titles during her distinguished career. The Russian star retired in 2020, ending her career with 36 WTA titles and more than 400 weeks inside the Top 5.
The Bryan brothers won 16 Grand Slam titles together, in addition to the gold medal earned at the London 2012 Olympics. Furthermore, the twins hold a record 39 ATP Masters 1000 crowns, and have achieved a Career Golden Masters by winning all nine active tournaments at the 1000 level.
“There’s no greater honor. It’s the top of the mountain of the sport to be in with the family of legends,” Mike said on Tennis Channel Live Tuesday. “It’s a thrill to just be considered for the Hall. We’re jacked."
Daniel Nestor will be returning to the ballot for his third and final year of eligibility. The Canadian doubles expert was the first man to win 1000 doubles matches. Additionally, Nestor is a 12-time Major title holder, with eight coming in men’s doubles and four in mixed doubles. In 2000, he partnered Sebastien Lareau to win the gold medal at the Sydney Olympics.
