Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal have all been touted as potential favourites for the Australian Open, but what about
Alexander Zverev? In a bold pick, Zverev who has been playing well at the recent United Cup is seen as a potential 'favourite' and 'dark horse' by
Coco Vandeweghe.
Vandeweghe admitted that in her book Nadal despite his exploits this week at the Brisbane International won't be a dark horse for the tournament despite many getting engulfed by the potential fairytale which could yet happen.
Speaking on Nadal and whether he will be favourite, she said: "Especially with Novak and the wrist injury he had at the United Cup, I think there's always going to be a question mark seeing how Novak can recover. But I don't think he (Nadal) is going to be a favourite in my book," she said on Tennis Channel.
"It's hard to count out a champion like that. My favourite honestly going in there is (Alexander) Zverev. I'm calling dark horse is Zverev." Those in the comments of the shared clip didn't disparage the claims but said that Zverev isn't there yet and is missing something to win a Grand Slam.
Others believed that anyone but Alcaraz or Djokovic picking up a Grand Slam would be a surprise, but could Vandeweghe be right and could Zverev be picking up the trophy in a few weeks time?
