In a life or death match for Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the player from Malaga was unable to defeat the recent US Open champion and world number 1, Novak Djokovic, and lost 6-3, 6-4, ending Spain's hopes of advancing to the next round.
David Ferrer's boys had everything at stake in this second day against Serbia. After losing 0-3 against the Czech Republic, only a win would do. But the task was not easy for Davidovich Fokina, as he had to face the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

The first set was comfortable for the Serb, who reached 4-3 without having to save break balls, broke at the best moment and took the set on his serve.
The second set was more complicated, as Davidovich was 4-1 up. However, from then on he completely fell apart and Djokovic won 5 games in a row to take the match.
There is still the doubles and the third match against South Korea, in which neither of the two teams have anything at stake, as the Czech Republic and Serbia have already sealed their pass to Malaga.

- Great article! I began cheering for the “real” doubles specialists at the beginning but once they all lost their respective matches I really didn’t care who actually won the whole tournament. I liked the last four teams in the semifinals and would have enjoyed seeing any of them win the trophy!
