The schedule for Day Seven of the Australian Open has been announced, marking the conclusion of the third-round matches and the end of the tournament's first week. Defending champion Jannik Sinner takes the spotlight in a day that also features Taylor Fritz, Danielle Collins, Holger Rune, and a thrilling showdown between Iga Swiatek and Emma Raducanu.
Rod Laver Arena
The day kicks off at the Rod Laver Arena with five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek, who has been performing at an exceptional level. She will face her first major test in the draw against the 2021 US Open champion, Emma Raducanu.
The Polish star delivered a stunning performance in her last match against Rebecca Sramkova (6-0, 6-2) and enters as the favourite against the Brit, whom she has defeated in all three of their previous encounters. Raducanu, however, arrives with confidence after overcoming two formidable opponents: 26th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and Amanda Anisimova.
Next up is local favourite and world No. 8 Alex de Minaur, who will face 31st seed Francisco Cerúndolo, the only South American remaining in the men’s draw. De Minaur has not dropped a set so far and looks poised to continue his run in front of his home crowd against Cerúndolo, who is better known for his clay-court prowess.
In the evening session, Jannik Sinner returns to the court to continue his Melbourne title defence and extend his winning streak. Sinner faced a surprising challenge from unheralded Tristan Schoolkate in the previous round, dropping his first set in 29 matches—the last time he lost a set was against Tomás Martín Etcheverry in the Shanghai Masters third round. Despite the early scare, the Italian rebounded strongly to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3. He now faces Marcos Giron (world No. 46), who has never progressed beyond the third round in a Grand Slam.
Closing out the day is an all-American clash as Danielle Collins returns to action following her controversial gestures during her victory over local qualifier Destanee Aiava, which drew boos from the crowd. She will face compatriot Madison Keys, the 19th seed, who is on a hot streak with seven consecutive wins, including her title at the Adelaide International last week.
Margaret Court Arena
The 8th seed Emma Navarro has survived two gruelling battles in the opening rounds, first against Peyton Stearns (6-7, 7-6, 7-5) and then against Xinyu Wang (6-3, 3-6, 6-4). In both matches, she was a break down in the third set and had to stage last-minute comebacks to stay alive. Now, she faces three-time Grand Slam runner-up Ons Jabeur, who seems in excellent form at the start of this season. Jabeur comfortably defeated Camila Osorio in her previous match and is steadily building her confidence.
Next on court is her compatriot Taylor Fritz, who has delivered two spectacular results so far, dropping only eight games across the six sets he played against Jenson Brooksby and Cristian Garin. The world No. 4 is eager to establish himself as a title contender and will face his first significant challenge in the form of Frenchman Gaël Monfils.
Monfils is enjoying a strong start to 2025, with seven consecutive wins, including a title at the ASB Classic. Having already shown his composure in a five-set victory over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Monfils will not be easily intimidated by Fritz’s powerful serve.
In the evening session, world No. 4 Jasmine Paolini will face a tough test against 28th seed Elina Svitolina. The Italian has had a smooth run so far but has yet to face a player of Svitolina’s calibre. The former world No. 3 recently achieved her 100th main-draw Grand Slam victory in her last match and is aiming to reach the fourth round in Melbourne for the fifth time in her career.
The day concludes with 13th seed Holger Rune taking on a surprising Miomir Kecmanovic. After an inconsistent 2024 season, the Serbian has started 2025 in good form, recording five wins and just one loss. He comes off a dominant straight-sets victory over Hubert Hurkacz. Meanwhile, Rune enters as the favourite, with a win potentially putting him on the verge of returning to the top 10.
