Bianca Andreescu recently revealed details of a chat between herself and
Serena Williams after the 2019
US Open final.
The Canadian player shocked the tennis world when she went into 2019 ranked World No. 152 only to end up defeating tennis legend Williams in the final of the US Open in September of the same year. Her ranking had been rising throughout the season, and by the time she reached Flushing Meadows, Andreescu was the fifteenth seed.
Once there, she defeated the likes of Caroline Wozniacki, Taylor Townsend, Elise Mertens, and Belinda Bencic to set up the clash with 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams, who has six US Open titles to her name.

Andreescu, who was 19 years old at the time, proceeded to defeat Williams in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, becoming the first Canadian player to win a Grand Slam in the process.
Now aged 23, Andreescu is currently on an indefinite break from the sport while she recovers from a back injury, and has been taking some time to visit her parents' home country Romania, where she is promoting a children's book that she co-authored called "Bibi's Got Game: A Story about Tennis, Meditation and a Dog Named Coco."
In an interview with Romanian publication Gazeta Sporturilor, Andreescu revealed the conversation that she had with Williams after their US Open clash.
"I told her she looked really good in what she was wearing, she had a purple dress, I liked it, I had something purple back then too. But I never felt... Yes, she's Serena Williams, but to get on the court, I had to get on her level, mentally," she said.
Williams retired from the sport last year, with her final tournament being the 2022 US Open. She and her husband Alexis Ohanian welcomed their second child in August of this year.
