Matteo Berrettini has nothing but fond memories from the last edition of the US Open. The Italian had a breakthrough performance announcing himself to the world of tennis in great fashion. Ever since that tournament, the young Italian has been a top 10 player in the world looking to make the next step.
Speaking to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport he admitted to being unsure about the participation at this year's US Open:
“Not just me, actually. The situation is complex. There are many questions that need to be answered."
Berrettini spoke about how health is the most important thing for him but if some of the questions he and other professionals would be answered he could see himself playing. He elaborated his stance more in-depth:
"If the conditions are good, I could play both the US Open and the French Open, but we have to wait and see. We don’t know what will happen."
Matteo was careful in his word choice as he wouldn't commit to playing just yet as he once more highlighted the many questions player's have on which they haven't received any clarifications yet. He would like to see the issues resolved as soon as possible as he wants more time to think carefully.
He concluded the interview by saying:
"I want to have more certainties than the current ones to be able to make my choice with the right serenity”.
