John Lloyd says he has 'a very good feeling' about Andy Murray's chances at Wimbledon 2023.
Andy Murray has had his fair share of difficulties throughout his tennis career. After reaching world No. 1 in the ATP rankings seven years ago, he has had to face a long road plagued by injuries, which at times have almost led him to leave the sport for good.
However, whilst no longer as successful as he was when he claimed two SW19 titles, the former world No. 1's love for tennis has driven him to continue competing and many players have spoken of their admiration for his grit and determined mindset.
Most recently, former British No. 1 John Lloyd has echoed these sentiments, saying that 'He's still gung ho. I'm so full of admiration for him.' However, Lloyd, the ex-husband of former world No. 1 Chris Evert, has also shown great optimism about Murray's prospects at this year's Wimbledon, saying that 'there are glimpses of the old Andy'.
As Murray prepares to appear at the major grasscourt tournament for the 15th time, Lloyd shared his predictions for the player, saying 'If he gets to the quarter-finals it would be a good effort but I have a feeling he could make the semis.'
This positive outlook is certainly not unfounded, as Murray has experienced recent success on the ATP Tour, particularly on the grass courts. In June, he won the Nottingham Challenger Event, defeating French player Arthur Cazuax in straight sets. Murray also claimed victory at the Surbiton Trophy in the same month, where he beat Latvian Jurij Rodionov 6-3, 6-2.
Moreover, Lloyd thinks that Murray's preparation for this year's Wimbledon 'couldn't have gone much better.' He then went on to add that even Murray's loss at the Queen's Club Championships, where he was defeated by Alex De Minaur in the first round, 'wasn't a bad thing' because 'it meant he could rest' in the run-up to the Grand Slam.
Murray will face fellow Brit Ryan Peniston in the first round of Wimbledon on Tuesday, July 4 at 12 pm CET.
