Grigor Dimitrov has constructed his version of the perfect player, including aspects of
Roger Federer,
Novak Djokovic, and
Nick Kyrgios.
In a social media video by
ATP Tour, the World No. 20 took part in a thought exercise in which he built what he believed to be the perfect player by combining aspects of various top-ranked athletes on the Tour of past and present.
For the forehand, Dimitrov chose Federer, his reason being that it remained solid even when the 20-time Grand Slam champion was under pressure.
"I'll go with Roger's forehand. He never missed it, when he had to miss it against me. I feel like a lot of players have missed a lot of shots, but not him against me," he said.
Nishikori and Hewitt also among picks
Dimitrov then revealed that he would choose Kei Nishikori's backhand due to its versatility.
"Backhand - Kei Nishikori. He can literally hit anything from that wing, backhand cross, lob, line, pass through the middle, curve it, get to it, anything," he said.
The Bulgarian player then had to pick a player for the serve, for which he chose the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Kyrgios.
"Serve, I'll go for Nick Kyrgios. To generate any type of serve... pretty spectacular," he continued.
For the return, he opted for 24-time Grand Slam champion and current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
"Return - Novak. He's always been able to put the ball on the court, no matter how fast the ball comes."
For the slice, Dimitrov went for himself, saying that it was one of the first shots he learned.
"I'll pick myself on the slice. One of my first shots that I ever learned how to do, so I really love playing it."
Finally, he chose former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt's fighting spirit.
"Lleyton Hewitt, his competitive nature is pretty amazing," he said.
