Grigor Dimitrov was one of the first tennis players to get infected by COVID-19 and now he spoke about how he fought the virus exclusively to Tennis Majors.
After competing at the
Adria Tour, Grigor Dimitrov became
one of the first tennis players to get infected by COVID-19. Now, after more than a month, the Bulgarian returned onto the tennis court and competes at the
Ultimate Tennis Showdown 2 (UTS 2). In an exclusive interview to Tennis Majors, he said:
"Clearly, I'm not ready to compete at the highest level right now. The movement is getting better, everything else is going the right direction, but it's still not easy to recover. The virus was hard on me," Dimitrov admitted. "I stayed at home for about a month. I was not breathing well, I was feeling really tired and I had no taste and no smell. Basically, I had all of the symptoms, so it was no fun."
"I'm lucky to be on the court right now. I'm trying to put effort every single day right now. Even if I'm tired, I just want to keep progressing. Because, you don't know, one day I feel really good but then I just need to completely shut down and take a rest," said Dimitrov.
"A lot of things are going through your head. It doesn't matter how mentally strong you are as a person, athlete, or anything, it's inevitable to get some bad thoughts. That's probably my biggest message, that we should not underestimate the power of the mental state. This thing is real of course," Grigor Dimitrov said.
