Following the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis, there have been numerous protests in an attempt to fight racial injustice.

Several high-profile athletes have spoken out about the issue of systematic and blatant racism, with a few from the tennis community showing their support. Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff were amongst those who voiced their outrage at police brutality. And now the United States Tennis Association has followed suit.

In an official statement, the USTA expressed their disdain for the hardships faced by African-Americans. Furthermore, they acknowledged that several current tennis players were inspired by the feats of notable African-American players like Arthur Ashe and Althea Gibson. These players were instrumental in breaking barriers which stood as a roadblock to inclusion and equality. They ended the statement by encouraging everyone to stand in solidarity with the African-American community.
