The Miami Open is one of the biggest tennis events in the calendar year, at least in the American continent. The tournament features both men’s and women’s tennis players who participate in the ATP and WTA 1000 events.
Like every year, there will be certain notable absentees from the competition. We are bringing you a list of seven such players who will the mega-event for numerous reasons.
Karolina Muchova
Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova will miss the mega-event as she continues to recover from a wrist injury. She suffered that during the US Open in 2023 and since then, has not played any professional tennis.
Belina Bencic
Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic will not be able to take part in the competition as well. She is on an indefinite break after announcing in September 2023 that she was pregnant.
Australia’s tennis star Nick Kyrgios will be another notable absentee from the mega-event. The former world number 10 has not played any professional tennis for more than a year now because of fitness concerns.
Stan Wawrinka
Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka will miss the competition as well. He announced that after his exit from the Indian Wells. The 38-year-old was knocked out of the ongoing competition in California after losing in the round of 128 to Tomas Machac with a score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-2.
Petra Kvitova
Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova will also miss the competition, largely because she announced earlier this year that she will be taking an indefinite break.
Former world number one Rafael Nadal will miss the competition because of a lack of fitness. He also missed the Indian Wells as he is eager to be ready for the French Open.
Serbia’s tennis star Novak Djokovic is set to miss the competition for the fifth consecutive season. The 36-year-old last played in the tournament in 2019. Djokovic took part in the ongoing Indian Wells where he was knocked out after losing in the round of 32 to Italy’s Luca Nardi with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

It is with great sadness that I have to withdraw from this amazing tournament at Indian Wells. Everyone knows how much I love this place and how much I love to play here. That’s also one of the reasons why I came very early to the desert to practice and try to get ready.
