Djokovic and Nadal headed home together from Indian Wells
Jim Courier opined that the discussion of the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) has already been settled in favor of Novak Djokovic over Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The tennis legend from the United States considered that the Serbian has already gained enough advantage over the retired Federer and Nadal, who is playing his final cards within the Tour.
The 4-times Grand Slam champion gave an interview to Tennis Channel in which he discussed the lengthy debate about the GOAT and analyzed the reasons that place 'Nole' above all other tennis players:
"Novak Djokovic is the greatest and deserves all the recognition. Then the end-of-year number 1, who is the real champion of the season, did it eight times. Federer and Nadal five times each. Sampras, six times, so for me the numbers don't lie."
"It's not just the Major titles, it's also the head-to-head record. Novak has a considerable lead over Federer but a narrow lead over Nadal, it's close. Statistically it's over. For now, unless Nadal can somehow find something and get back into the conversation with other Majors," Courier added.
It's weeks at No. 1, Djokovic definitely has a huge advantage there. But I've been talking about someone who isn't on this graphic screen for a while and I think it's also very important," he explained.
Another American legend recently spoke about the Serbian star. Jimmy Connors shared his opinion in the latest episode of his podcast, Advantage Connors, stating that despite Djokovic's experience, there inevitably comes a point where countering the ambition of younger tennis players becomes more challenging.
The Serbian quickly exited in the third round of Indian Wells after falling to 20-year-old Luca Nardi. A couple of days later, it was announced that he would not participate in the Miami Open and would take a break before the European clay season, where he hopes to regain his top form:Principio del formulario
"The only thing that matters with experience is that when you get it, you're too old to do anything with it. It's a point where these guys are just young and they're willing to do it and stay. When you play guys who have 15 years younger than you, experience is a great thing,” Jimmy Connors said
Age is something you can never beat and no matter how much you try to fight it and no matter how much you try to find a way with your diet or your training or whatever, numbers matter in this. Djokovic was the same way when he was emerging, facing players he had to beat to get a reputation and all that and it's tough," he added.
