Wilander on next generation including Tsitsipas: 'I see those names as the greatest favourites to win a Grand Slam'
Tennis News
Mats Wilander has discussed the next generation and such players as Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev etc. and said that he now sees them as favourites to win Grand Slams.
Wilander said that the men's side will likely go through a similar situation to what it was on the Women's side and that is new names taking the initiative and winning Grand Slams.
He names Stefanos, Daniil as well as the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov and Karen Khachanov as the players who can firmly do it.
"I see those names as the greatest favourites to win a Grand Slam", said the Swede.
"There is a similar situation on the women side, a new generation of players has not beaten Serena Williams too many times. Look at Stefanos Tsitsipas, one win over Roger Federer and one loss. He beat Rafael Nadal. He played the best guys several times and we saw he is not afraid of them and their names.
If those new generations of players are afraid of Novak, Rafa and Roger, is because those three are still at the top of the rankings. Beating them in best of five sets is not easy but that can put them in trouble in the following matches.
Daniil Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Karen Khachanov; those names are still the youngest generation."
