Alex
De Minaur and
Katie Boulter discussed their relationship as professional tennis
players in a new ATP and WTA video. The tennis pair talked in a park in Madrid
and revealed that they kept their relationship secret for a while.
Both
are experiencing a great moment in their careers, especially when in the first
week of March they were both champions in their respective tournaments. On
Saturday, March 2nd, De Minaur successfully defended his title at the ATP 500
Mexican Open against
Casper Ruud, and less than 24 hours later, Boulter
defeated
Marta Kostyuk in
San Diego Open, securing her first WTA 500 title with De
Minaur supporting her from her box.
The
pair has been prominent in both the men's and women's tours in 2024, with
Boulter ranked 20th in the WTA Race and
Alex de Minaur sitting 7th in the ATP
Race. Amid their participation in the
Madrid Open, they took part in a video
where they reflected on their relationship and journey together in recent
times:
'I
think what was very important as well, early stages is we kind of talk to
about, you know, tennis being our number one priority. Make it all this work,
just finding the balance. I thought it was going to be quite tough.'
'Yeah,
it was huge. That was the tough part I think, the very start of the
relationship was hard,' Boulter said.
The
couple revealed that they initially kept their relationship a secret: 'Remember
that time when we were having breakfast on like separate tables?' Boulter
asked.
'We
would rock down to breakfast at different times,' De Minaur responded. 'Different
times, like 10 minutes later,' Boulter added. 'It's so true, so people wouldn't
find out.'" “It
works every time,” De Minaur added, laughing.
