15-year-old Russian tennis prodigy
Mirra Andreeva is proving exceptional at tennis taking down another big name at the
Madrid Open after her win yesterday.
Andreeva defeated Leylah Fernandez quite easily in the previous round and today she followed it up with another good performance against Haddad Maia. It was another straight-set win for the player who is not only 15 years old right now but also undefeated this year in all competitions. Just an incredible showing from her and she's giving herself a great birthday present as she turns 16 in two days on April 29th.
The match itself was played well by both players. The first set ended in a tiebreak after a really strong comeback by the Russian. She came back multiple times because Haddad Maia was up a break twice in the set. She was also up 6-3 in the tiebreak but the youngster turned that around into an 8-6 triumph in the tiebreak.
Just a spectacular showing all around and she continued playing well in the second set taking an early break at the start of it and then holding it rather comfortably. Andreeva allowed only two break points in the final set saving both and then finished it off by breaking Haddad Maia once more 6-3.
