2019 US Open Women's Day 5 Results: Williams, Keys and Barty among the Last 16

Karolina Pliskova kicked off the day five of the US Open at Louis Armstrong Stadium. The Czech player struggled with Ons Jabeur when she lost the second set 6-4 after the first dominant set, which she won 6-1 and was the only one to go to the third set during the fifth day.

In spite of the great finish in the last set of the Tunisian player, Pliskova has already kept the lead, which she has developed in the decisive set thanks to two breaks earlier in the set.

Pliskova's opponent in the next round will be Johanna Konta, who managed to comfortably outplay her rival Zhang from China.

Another pair between the last 16 in Flushing Meadows will be Serena Williams, who lost only 5 games with Karolina Muchova, and Petra Martic, who surprised Sevastova, who was the semi-finalist last year.

Ashleigh Barty and Qiang Wang also made sure that we won’t see any players that are not seeded among the last 16 in the bottom part of the draw, after winning in straight sets.

Before the men ended the day in a night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium, they also featured matches of Madison Keys and Elina Svitolina. Svitolina confirms her qualities at the Grand Slam, when she has not lost a set at the US Open and even lost just 2 games with her countrywoman Yastremska in the 3rd round.

Keys, on the other hand, picked up a great form from the Western & Southern Open and also defeated fellow countrywoman Kenin, whom she commented on during the tournament in Cincinnati, that she remembers her when she was 9 years old.
