2021 US Open Day 9 ATP & WTA Schedule of Play with Medvedev, Svitolina, Alcaraz and Sabalenka

The US Open is down to its last 8 players in both draws and Tuesday brings us Daniil Medvedev, Elina Svitolina, Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka to the courts.

The event is slowly entering it's final phase with the quarterfinals on the schedule. The first batch of them will be played today with play set to start a bit later than usual at 18:00 CET. Daniil Medvedev will take on qualifier Botic Van De Zandschulp. The Russian is the clear favourite as he's been smashing opponents from the start. The Dutch will try his best but it's hard to see him do anything of note in this match.

After that match, we will see Elina Svitolina take on Leylah Fernandez. Both of these players have played very good tennis to reach this stage but they played differently. Svitolina played a bit defensive while Fernandez played an all-out offensive style that so far worked. It's a clash of styles that might see Fernandez pull an upset if she continues to play as great as she did so far.

The 3rd match of the day will be played between Aryna Sabalenka and Barbora Krejcikova. Both are in very good form but Krejcikova suffered a medical episode in her match that left her unable to leave the court on her own. It's not known what happened and it will be interesting to see whether it affects her in this match. For Sabalenka this is a big chance and she will want to get it over quickly.

The final match of the day should be a spectacle as two very young players play. This will be the fisrt of many matches in the future but Carlos Alcaraz will try to battle past Felix Auger-Aliassime for the US Open semifinal. Both played great, both like to play attacking and both played very grueling matches in the past two rounds. It will coem down to physicalyi and AUger-Aliassime might have the edge there rigth now.
