2023 Transylvania Open WTA Entry List including Garcia, Vekic, and Cirstea

The Transylvania Open will take place from October 16-22 at the BTarena in Romania's second-most populous city Cluj-Napoca.

The WTA event was voted the Best 250 Tournament of the Year in 2022 and has a strong line-up to prove why it got the award. The highest-ranked player this year will be World No. 11 Caroline Garcia.

The Frenchwoman has had a difficult season, dropping out of the top eight in the WTA Ranking and subsequently seeing her chances of defending her WTA Finals title significantly reduced. She was seeded seventh at the recent US Open but was defeated by Yafan Wang in the first round. Therefore, she will be hoping for redemption at this event.

Vekic, Cirstea, and Pliskova among seeds

Seeded second is Croatia's Donna Vekic. The 27-year-old is currently ranked No. 21 in the world and defeated Garcia in the Monterrey Open final in March of this year. Vekic is one of the most improved players of this season and she will be hoping to carry on this momentum in Romania.

The highest-ranked home player will be third seed and World No. 25 Sorana Cirstea. The 33-year-old experienced recent success at the US Open, defeating fourth seed Elena Rybakina and fifteenth seed Belinda Benici to reach the quarter-finals of the New York Slam.

The fourth seed is another top 30 player, World No. 28 Anhelina Kalinina. The Ukrainian player has not made it past the second round of a tournament since she finished as the runner-up at the Rome Open in May, so she will be looking to gain back some points here.

The fifth seed will be World No. 36 Karolina Pliskova. The Czech former World No. 1 has also been struggling to achieve a deep run at a tournament recently and will be hoping to amend this before the end of the season.

Alycia Parks, Rebeka Masarova, and Greet Minnen will round out the top 8 at the tournament.
