Wimbledon 2023 is set to begin in just a few days where players from all over the world will battle it out for the ultimate prize.
Like every year, the draw for the competition makes an interesting read for the players as well as the fans and this time it is no different.
According to We Are Tennis, fans will be in for a treat, especially from the quarterfinals stage where mouthwatering contests are expected to take place.
In the women’s singles category, world number one Iga Swiatek is expected to face America’s young sensation and current world number four America’s Coco Gauff.
Both players have faced off seven times across all competitions and on all occasions, Swiatek came out on top. However, the encouraging bit for the 19-year-old will be that both players have never met on the grass court.
Their last meeting was in the French Open quarterfinal where the 22-year-old came out on top in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
Another expected mouthwatering clash in the quarterfinals could be the rematch of the 2022 Wimbledon final where Elena Rybakina will take on Ons Jabeur.
In that contest, the current world number three defeated Tunisia’s tennis star with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Despite that defeat in the last year’s final of the mega-event, one positive for Jabeur will be that she has also defeated Rybakina twice in four meetings, meaning there is not much to choose between the two.
The other two potential quarterfinals could be between America’s Jessica Pegula / France’s Caroline Garcia and world number two Aryna Sabalenka/Greece's Maria Sakkari. These quarterfinals are predicted through players seeding.
