Twice as nice! Slovakia's Alex Molcan defeats De Minaur 7-6 6-2 to make the #OpenParc final - his second this year & first with new coach Marián Vajda 💪
In a battle of Alexe's in Lyon, Molcan proved better than de Minaur taking him down 7-6(2) 6-2 and moving on to the final.
Molca has been steadily improving for a while now and on clay, he's been good ever since reaching the final in Belgrade last year. In the meantime, Molcan started working with Marian Vajda as well and we can already see the fruits of it. He didn't open well losing his serve in the first game as heavy wind frustrated both players. De Minaur held the lead for a while but eventually, Molcan was able to battle back.
The Speed Demon sped his way past Molcan for a 5-4 lead but he failed to serve out the set. Molcan took the 6-5 lead and Demon forced a tiebreak. In the tiebreak de Minaur completely folded as Molcan elevated his game considerably. The Slovakian player just kept coming after de Minaur who looked a bit disinterested at times as well.
In the 2nd set de Minaur completely check out as Molcan rushed to a 6-2 finish. It's the 2nd clay final for Molcan this year after Marrakech. He will hope to win this one as he lost that one to Goffin. de Minaur was seemingly already in Paris as his focus collapsed as the match went on.
