Alexandra Eala has returned back to the Philippines after her successful trip to Wimbledon and has been met with a hero's welcome by many Filipino tennis fans upon her return.
The 21-year-old was one of the stories of the tournament at SW19. With just one Grand Slam win before her second appearance at Wimbledon, Eala stormed all the way to the last-16 with the whole of the Philippines behind her. She played some incredible tennis in the process, dumping out the defending champion Iga Swiatek on Centre Court.
Her fairytale run came to a close following a three-set defeat to former finalist Jasmine Paolini after another exciting match. Following a long stint in Europea competing on clay and grass, Eala is back in the Philippines, returning to her home capital of Manila.
Once there, she would witness a large number of people waiting for her to wish her well and congratulate her Wimbledon campaign and brilliant form as of late.
"Oh my god," she said with her entourage around her. She first saw the crowds of people waiting for her, star-struck by what she was seeing. You would think that Eala would be used to it by now. Waves of Filipino tennis fans regularly travel around the world to watch the phenomenon compete at the highest level, filling out the biggest courts and giving organisers a headache about scheduling.
As she came around the corner, there was a band playing music with people gathered around with cameras filming her. "Is this really for me," she stated, thankful and overjoyed for the support she has amassed.
Soon enough, the fans were able to meet her and she was soon mobbed, in the centre of a large group of people being the sole focus as she signed her autograph on numerous objects while meeting her loyal fans in the process.

Eala's hero welcome showcases immense support and supreme talent

It is no secret that Eala has a huge fanbase, one of the biggest on the WTA Tour. However, it is her tennis that many have begun talking about on a more regular basis.
She broke onto the big stage at the Miami Open, making a run to the semi-final in the WTA 1000 event. She has since backed it up with steady progression in the sport and some more noticeable runs. She squandered four championship points in the 2025 Eastbourne Open final but did win a first WTA title soon after at 125 level.
Eala has been hovering around the top 32 mark, currently in it thanks to a brilliant grass swing. She has grown into a very effective player on this specific surface and will be sad that this period in the WTA calendar is already over.

Alexandra Eala reached the last-16 of a major tournament for the first time
She began by winning her second WTA 125 title in Brimingham. An early exit at Queen's followed before a tremendous run to the semi-finals of the Berlin Ladies Open really got people talking, eventually losing to eventual champion Linda Noskova.
Wimbledon was the big one, and she would prove to be a hit. Renata Zarazua and Maya Joint were taken down before a test against the 2025 winner and six-time champion Swiatek awaited her. It was a second time on Centre Court after playing the 2024 champion Barbora Krejcikova there last year, failing to win.
In a dramatic first set, Eala failed to take set points as Swiatek forced a tiebreak. Both continued to waste their efforts as eventually Eala got the first set on the board. She was playing some brilliant tennis, and this continued as the Swiatek game dipped. She was in control of the second set, seeing it out before becoming very emotional afterwards as the overall win sunk in.
Following her defeat to Paolini, she now has some time to rest and reset with more tennis tournaments on the horizon. The DC Open is the next tournament that she is set to participate in, taking place form July 27 - August 2 as the North American hardcourt swing gets underway.
