Alexandra Eala will have to focus solely on singles this week at the Pan Pacific Open after it was confirmed late that she will not in fact play in doubles.
Eala was due to team with Desirae Krawczyk, who has just won the Ningbo Open herself with Fanny Stollar, but due to injury, that now will not happen. They were due to face Hao-Ching Chan and Miyu Kato in their opening match on Monday morning, but they were removed after Krawczyk picked up an injury.
She has been struggling with a back problem, albeit like alluded to, and won her 14th career doubles title at the Ningbo Open. She saw off Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Cristina Bucsa in the final on Sunday alongside Stollar.
Eala had played at the Wuhan Open previously teaming up with Zeynep Sonmez, one of her good friends who is part of the group with Iva Jovic and Eva Lys, among others, friends on tour that have come to prominence. So it was very much a close friend affair. Albeit they lost in the first round.

Eala in practice.
Eala heads towards the end of the season.
All isn't lost, though, for those wanting to see Eala in this tournament, as she plays on Monday afternoon, where she takes on Mika Stojsavljevic in the first round. She has only won one match through this Asian hard court swing and has not been in the best form.
She beat Diane Parry in the first round before then being defeated by Diana Shnaider. She also lost her opening games in Singapore and Wuhan. She is seeded eighth in Japan, and if she gets the better of her opener, she will face Talia Gibson in the second round after the Aussie ace defeats Daria Kasatkina in straight sets.

She will play one more tournament this season to end it all off at the Hong Kong Open. She reached the second round on debut 12 months ago. But despite that, she can look back on the season with great solace, knowing that it has been a true breakout, winning titles and generally just becoming a tennis superstar despite these losses.
Perhaps not being able to play doubles is a blessing given that her singles form has not been the best anyway.
