Coco Gauff has failed to back up a first round win again with a fifth defeat in the second round in the last six tournaments. She was defeated by Ekaterina Alexandrova at Bett1 Open Berlin.
Albeit Alexandrova has been in some superb form as of late winning the Libema Open this past week with a 6-4, 6-0 win for the Russian in what is her seventh consecutive win.
Gauff hit only 42% of her first serves and was vulnerable on that element of her game. In particular in the second set when she won only 1/8 points behind her second serve.
Alexandrova used that to her advantage to surge into a 3-0 lead and the Gauff game was seemingly being picked apart.
Things then went from bad to worse as she was broken again in the second set making it 6-0 before being bagelled by Alexandrova who makes back-to-back Quarter-Finals on grass.
Aryna Sabalenka or Veronika Kudermetova now await with the latter perhaps going into her tie as an outside favourite after losing to Alexandrova in the final last week.
While for Gauff, it is firmly back to the drawing board again after another early loss.
