Jannik Sinner had a really solid draw but the Italian messed up by once again hitting himself right out of a match with 70+ unforced errors against
Daniel Altmaier.
Jannik Sinner always played a very aggressive style and while he will never go away from it, the Italian needs to find a way to better control his shots. He can't play himself out of matches the way he did in this one if he hopes to be a grand slam champion one day. Racking up unforced errors is fine, but not at the rate he did in this match. Besides the errors, there were some questionable choices as well and he also didn't use his chances, particularly to close out the match.
He finished it with 75 which is just too much. For much of this match, Sinner did play well as he took the first set with an impressive tiebreak. In the second set, it was Altmaier who proved better in another tiebreak with Sinner storming back in the 3rd 6-1. The 4th saw Sinner waste two match points with one being particularly troublesome for the Italian as he pretty much had the point won.
He would lose that set in the tiebreak and then the final one saw a crazy finish. Altmaier served for the match but he got broken to make it 5-5. Sinner lost his serve once more and wasted a couple of break points to break back and force a tiebreak. It came after Altmaier wasted a 40-0 lead on his serve. Just a crazy match with a crazy finish. Five hours and 28 minutes.
