Alycia Parks couldn't win a tennis match for weeks but the American has now won two pretty big matches for herself adding a win over Azarenka today 6-2 7-6(5).
This one over Azarenka was quite convincing and impressive. Not many people gave Parks any chances against the Belarusian but she came out strong and thoroughly outplayed her in the first set 6-2. Neither player served well in the opening set but Parks was particularly bad hitting her first serve only 33 % of the times.
She had 3 aces but 7 double faults and despite that, she was able to win the set 6-2 as Azarenka was really bad in the rallies. The second set was played much better by both. Both had the serve working with Parks, especially needing it to keep Azarenka away from any break points. The American had an early 2-0 lead but gave it back right away.
From that point on we didn't see a single break point with both players looking good on serve. Eventually, we ended up in a tiebreak with Azarenka jumping out to a 2-0 lead but Parks battled back and took a lead which she held to finish off the match 7-5.
