With the likelihood of rain hitting in an hour or so, some matches at the
Miami Open are getting done and the first winner of the day was a certain top American star in
Coco Gauff who eased past
Nadia Podoroska.
It was a 6-1, 6-2 win for Gauff as she eased past the World No.78 to book her spot in the third round. Next up will be Arantxa Rus or Oceane Dodin in a pretty open section for the World Number Three. But of course given her recent up and down form, it could be where she trips up.
But certainly against Podoroska and perhaps with the conditions in mind with her match heavily delayed due to the conditions which initially threatened to delay the whole day's play, she wasn't in no mood to hang around.
Saturday having a similarly up and down forecast means that some matches will likely be cancelled at the end of today when the rain comes and some may be delayed tomorrow. But Gauff now remains in the box seat. After a close start, it was a double break as she came from 40-30 down the second time to claim it 5-1 and despite surviving a break point and failing to convert two more set points prior, Gauff found a way to a rampant start.
She broke to start the second and after staving off break point chances back, Gauff found the last touch at the opportune moment. She broke superbly to go 5-2 up before closing out the match as she did the right things at the right moments. A home hero and US Open champion through.
