The latest day of action at the Miami Open is slated to start shortly, but it is very much unlikely to do so for most of Friday with rain affecting the landscape of proceedings and will likely mean a bumper Saturday despite the forecast also not looking great.
Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner are among the leading lights who start their campaigns on Friday, but Miami-Dade and Broward counties are under a Flood Watch and Wind Advisory through Saturday evening.
The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has placed Florida under a Level 1 risk of severe weather with up to five inches of rain expected. That makes the potential for this weekend to almost be a washout.
Also images have been released with only an hour or so to go until play is slated to begin with a sodden court and with no roof on the Hard Rock Stadium, it makes it difficult to see any play today. A treat for some fans on Saturday, but certainly not those who have tickets for today.
Since writing, play has begun including between Paula Badosa and Aryna Sabalenka facing off. But with a poor forecast awaiting, it could be a stop start night.

Miami, with 1h15 till the start of play. Unlikely to get ANY match today, per the forecast…

🌧️ El @MiamiOpen me recibe con lluvias en una jornada de viernes con grandes nombres. No hay pistas con techo en este torneo así que deberá mejorar mucho la previsión para que se pueda desarrollar el día con normalidad.
