Andreescu battles past Siniakova in Berlin

Bianca Andreescu made a winning start on grass against Katerina Siniakova in a match that she should have finished off earlier 6-4 4-6 6-4.

The Canadian player played a very solid match but she complicated things so very much. It happened quite a few times and it must have left her fans very frustrated by all the twists and turns that happened in the match. The first three games featured 3 consecutive losses of serve. Andreescu was up 3-1 after that but then lost three games in a row to make it 3-4.

She then won three games in a row to finish off the set 6-4 in her favour. The 2nd set featured more sturdy play by both players as we did not see a single break point in the first six games of the set. Andreescu broke her opponent for the 4-3 lead but then lost three games in a row giving away the set when she was practically close to winning.

Siniakova opened the final set with strong momentum taking a 2-0 lead but then lost her serve to make it 2-1. Andreescu was serving to make it 2-2 but rain started falling and stopped the match for a while. Upon return, Siniakova missed all her momentum and eventually, the Canadian player was able to finish off the match 6-4 in the final set.
