Seen as a potential return to the winners' circle for Bianca Andreescu this week, the former US Open champion fell short in the semi-finals at Thailand Open Hua Hin with injury problems returning for the former US Open champion.
Andreescu was broken serving for the first set and was down 6-5 to the Ukrainian and her injury problems began from there as she lost the first set and retired at 4-0 with Tsurenko left frustrated at many portions of the game with the extra time the Canadian was taking.
In the first set alone was 30 unforced errors for Andreescu and after more treatment to the neck and shoulder area from the trainer, she decided to retire after being broken again.
Both had a lengthy chat before and after shaking hands with Tsurenko telling the on-court interviewer that she had one of the best games on tour.
Next up for Tsurenko is Lin Zhu who reaches her first WTA singles final and is guaranteed to seal a spot in the top 50 of the rankings by doing so.
She saw off Wang Xinyu 6-2, 6-4 and continues an excellent season which saw her impress at the Australian Open losing to Victoria Azarenka. They face off in the final tomorrow.
