Anett Kontaveit and
Kim Clijsters are among the former WTA tennis stars confirmed for the 2023 Luxembourg Tennis Masters.
This will be the second edition of the tournament, at which eight former players will lock horns at the Centre National Sportif et Culturel du Luxembourg.
Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova, Germany's Andrea Petkovic, and the Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova will also be among those taking part at the event, held between October 19-22.
Retired players get another chance to shine
The tournament was first held last year with the idea of giving retired players the chance to still compete among each other at a high level. 40-year-old Clijsters, who is a former World No. 1 and has four Grand Slam singles titles to her name, is the defending champion of the event.
This will be 27-year-old Kontaveit's first outing at the tournament after she retired at this year's Wimbledon. This came after the Estonian player was diagnosed with lumbar disc degeneration which meant that she would no longer be able to continue her career at the top of professional tennis.
Also in the line-up are 2016 Olympic gold medalist
Monica Puig and 37-year-old Pauline Parmentier, as well as home player Mandy Minella.
There is €110,000 allotted for the tournament, with the winner receiving €50,000 while the runner-up earns €20,000. There are four former top-10 ranked players at the event this year, as well as four players who were formerly ranked in the top 50 in the WTA Ranking.
