Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu may be looking at some time off following her early round defeat at the Canadian Open (National Bank Open) in Montreal, as she stated her participation at the upcoming Cincinnati Masters is in doubt.
The 2019 US Open champion lost to Camila Giorgi in the opening round, and revealed she had been dealing with a back injury that flared up at last week's DC Open.

Andreescu admits back and joint pain affected her performance

In an interview after the match, the former World No.4 opened up about the pain she had been dealing with over the past few weeks.
"Last week during my match in Washington, I experienced some back pain," she admitted. "Some SI joint pain, to be exact. I've had this before. I've had to deal with it many times, actually. It got better for a few days, and then I started playing again, and then obviously I felt some irritation, but I saw some light at the end of the tunnel.
"But with SI joint pain, it's very difficult because it's nothing very serious, but if you do push, you do feel a lot of pain. That's what I experienced one of the days practicing before the tournament. And then, practice and competing in a tournament is totally different. So obviously today I felt it a bit more, and it did impact my performance, sadly."
Furthermore, the 23-year old stated she was doubtful regarding participating at the upcoming Cincinnati Masters.
"I'm going to speak to my team about that, but I definitely need to take a few days off," Andreescu added. "It just sucks that it started during this tournament. Yeah, it really sucks. I don't know if I'm going to play Cincinnati. The goal is obviously US Open."
