Amanda Anisimova downed Putintseva 6-1 6-2 while Pliskova came back to win against Zavatska 4-6 7-5 6-4 in Charleston.
Amanda Anisimova is getting back to doing things she was doing earlier this season and that's winning. The American is clearly motivated to do well yet quite a few times in the past month she ran into troubling circumstances with some injuries and some retirements. Now in Charleston she is looking good again winning two matches.
Today's match against Putintseva was a very good one as Anisimova dominated from the get-go. The faster clearly allowed her to attack Putintseva a lot as the player from Kazakhstan doesn't have a very strong serve. It got her in trouble quite a bit and Anisimova had no worries in the match. She won 6-1 6-2.
Joining her in the next round will be
Karolina Pliskova who battled against Katarina Zavatska. It was a match that lasted two days because it was interrupted by rain on day one. On day one it was Zavatska who was better as the Ukrainian was able to win the opening see with 7-5. She was playing rather well in the 2nd set as well but the match was interrupted.
On day two Zavatsk early on was pretty good taking a lead and having a chance to finish the match with a 5-3 lead. When she served for the match, Kvitova pulled it back winning 4 games in a row to win the set 7-5. In the 2nd set, Kvitova was the better player for the most part and she pulled out the win 6-4.
