Amanda Anisimova won't play a third week on the spin after withdrawing from the 2024 Cincinnati Open on Wednesday morning just before the schedule was confirmed for Day Three.
Anisimova reached the Quarter-Finals in Washington from qualifying and then reached the final of the Canadian Open. As a result she has played a lot of matches in the past two weeks.
She cited that as the reasoning on social media. The 22-year-old said that her body can't perform the way she wants so she has decided against playing this week. But she has succeeded in multiple missions anyway.
"Hi everyone unfortunately I have to withdraw from Cincinnati. I have played a lot of matches this week and my body won't let me compete to my full capacity," she wrote on Instagram in a statement on her story. "I'll miss all the fans and I hope to see you next year."
She received a wildcard for the US Open alongside Learner Tien after accruing points before the cutoff. She also won't have to rely on that system in future either. Now into the top 50 again for the first time in over a year, she can look up again.
She was due to face a tricky test anyway in Cincinnati with Victoria Azarenka up first. Lucia Bronzetti replaces her in the draw. The Italian is a lucky loser and will now face the Belarusian this evening.
Anisimova reached the final last week in Toronto losing out to Jessica Pegula in what was an awesome week for the former World No.21 and saw her breakout again. She showed the promise that she has often shown in recent years before mental health and fatigue paid heed to this as she decided to leave the sport for a time. Now she is back and better than ever.
