Amanda Anisimova is having a really good year in 2022 and she continued that with another victory in Madrid 6-1 6-2 over
Victoria Azarenka.
The American tennis player already had her spotlight moment in 2019 rising to the top 20 and playing in the French Open semifinal as a teenager. Now, a couple of years later, aged 20, Anisimova is back to winning ways. She's played well all season long and Madrid has been very good for her this week as she already took down Sabalenka in the event.
Now she smacked the 2nd Belarussian player Victoria Azarenka who had no chance from the start. It was very quickly evident that Azarenka was not playing very well as Anisimova very quickly raced to the 1st set finish with 6-1. The main problem for Azarenka was her serve as she barely hit over 30 % of her first serves. When she did hit it, she won the majority of those rallies but Anisimova just punished the 2nd serve.
Azarenka served a bit better in the 2nd set but it still was not enough as Anisimova was now playing with full confidence and she jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a double break. Azarenka pulled it back to 3-1 but lost her serve once more with Anisimova taking a 5-1 lead. She complicated things a little bit allowing herself to get broken when serving for the match using only her 6th match point.
