Anna Kalinskaya produced a really high level to stun
Victoria Azarenka in straight setst 6-4 7-6(5). at the Credit One
Charleston Open.
Kalinskaya is an incredibly tricky player to play because her level can vary so much. At times she's terrible not being able to keep the ball in play but sometimes she also finds a very good level and is pretty tough to beat. The latter is happening this week in Charleston as she beat Azarenka in the second-round match.
It wasn't the best Azarenka can show but it was a pretty good level from the Russian to win the match as well. Neither player served that well but Kalinskaya was a bit better behind her first serve. She won more points and she was better on the second serve as well. The second serve was a major issue for Azarenka.
The Russian attacked her immediately after the slow serve and it worked quite well. She won most of the points behind the second serve of Azarenka and that proved crucial in both sets. We saw breaks in both sets but for the most part, it was Kalinskaya who was ahead. Azarenka never lead in the match but she managed to make it interesting with the second-set tiebreak.
