According to former tennis player-turned-analyst Pam Shriver, the rivalry between
Aryna Sabalenka and
Elena Rybakina is similar to that of when Jennifer Capriati faced long-time foe Monica Seles.
Sabalenka and Rybakina may not have faced each other as many times as the latter duo, but Shriver believes the two are getting closer to evoking feelings similar to when Capriati-Seles battled on the tennis court.
The duo's power-style of play is entertaining to watch, according to Shriver
Well I think there's a few that are starting to come to the top, first off," said Shriver. "I'll just say as far as styles like I never would have thought I would have enjoyed two players bashing the ball as hard as each other as Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina right down at the Australian Open final."
Furthermore, Shriver compared their clash at Melbourne to a similar battle between Capriati and Seles, which occurred at the US Open years ago.
I mean that was just unbelievable tennis and it reminded me a little bit of a 30-year ago match," she added. "When Jennifer Capriati took on Monica Seles in the semifinals of the US Open and it 7-6 in third to Seles.
"But it was like this knockdown, drag-out power clash. It wasn't full of unforced errors and that's kind of what happened. That was great to see."
