Ashleigh Barty was one of the first players to step onto the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre courts to face Danish phenom Clara Tauson. The breaking point in the first set came fairly early when the players played a mammoth 2nd game.
Barty broke Tauson by converting her 10th break point in that game alone taking a 2-0 lead early. From there she cruised to the opening set 6-1 finish as Tauson kind of fell apart. The Danish player rushed in rallies committing far too many errors.
The 2nd set was much better by Tauson who played a much more balanced style of tennis. She also hit some of the balls she missed in the opening set and it made the set much closely contested. Barty still played rather well taking the deciding break midway through the set at 3-3.
She served a bit worse than in the first set which gave Tauson some chances but in the end and she took one at 5-4 for Barty when the Australian served for the match. She broke Barty to come back into the match but lost her serve in the next game giving Barty another chance to close it out.
She did so winning the set with 7-5 and moving on to the 3rd round of the US Open.
