Both Emma Raducanu and Maria Sakkari stepped out onto the US Open courts at the same time and their matches finished at similar times as well. Sakkari took on a tricky opponent in
Katerina Siniakova and the Greek player proved very composed and sure in her game.
Sakkari applied pressure on Siniakova early on and while the Czech player held on for a while Sakkari eventually broke her to win the opening set with 6-4. She started off badly in the 2nd set falling down 0-2 but fought back to take the lead and eventually win the 2nd set with 6-2.
Emma Raducanu will join her in the 3rd round of the US Open after a strong win over Zheng. Raducanu and Zhen played in San Jose a few weeks ago and Zheng was able to win the match easily in two sets. For Raducanu it was the first hard court match officially and since then she got a lot better.
She proved it on the court as she smashed Zhang in the first set with 6-2 playing great tennis from start to finish. In the 2nd set, she took an early 4-1 lead but allowed Zhen to find some rhythm later on. In the end, she still won the set with 6-4 moving on to the 3rd round.
