Ashleigh Barty will finish the 2021 season as the number one player in the world and by doing that she will match Serena Williams who also went 3 consecutive years as of year-end No 1.
Ashleigh Barty has not played in a while and she will miss the WTA Finals. That won't impact her ranking at all as the Australian player is set to finish as the year-end No. 1 in the rankings for the 3rd year in a row. She replicated the same thing Serena Williams did a while ago when the tennis legend also had three consecutive years as the year-end No. 1.
The list of players that have been able to achieve that feat is not long but the company is stellar. Chris Evert was one of the players that was able to do it three years in a row as well. Steffi Graff did it for four consecutive years while the absolute record holder is Martina Navratilova who went 5 consecutive years as the No. 1 player at the end of the season.
How far can Barty go remains to be seen but the Australian has been one of the most consistent tennis players in the past few years. If she continues to play consistently as she did so far she can extend this achievement even further which would put her in very rare company.
