Ashleigh Barty has undoubtedly had the best year of her career, winning a tour-leading five WTA titles, and the accolades keep coming as the Australian hit another major milestone this week.
The 25-year old kicked off her 100th career week as World No.1 on the WTA Ranking table, becoming just the eighth woman to hold that distinction since the rankings began in 1975.

The Queensland native has held the top position over two spells, first rising to World No.1 on June 24, 2019, a few weeks after she won her maiden Grand Slam at Roland Garros. She would lose the position to Naomi Osaka in August, but reclaimed it four weeks later on September 9, 2019 and has held onto it ever since. This week is Barty's 93rd consecutive week as World No.1, which doesn’t include the 20 weeks the WTA rankings were frozen in 2020 due to COVID-19.
The reigning Wimbledon champion opted to sit out the rest of the 2021 season, choosing to return home after almost six straight months on Tour. Barty is scheduled to return at next year's Australian Open, where she will once again carry a nation's hopes as she aims to capture her first Australian Open title.
