Ashleigh Barty will not be representing Team Australia at this year's Billie Jean King Cup, as the World No.1 has already cast doubts on her participation during the rest of the season.
Barty left her native Australia in March, and made the decision to not return during a six-month period as she focused on her tennis career. After some superb performances that saw her win titles in Miami and Wimbledon, the 25 year-old fell in the third round at the US Open.
Following her loss in Flushing Meadows, Barty took an extended break and later announced her withdrawal from the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells. The two-time Grand Slam champion is also likely to skip the year-ending WTA Finals, according to her coach.
Although Team Australia will be lacking the World No.1's firepower, they have adequate reinforcements in Wimbledon quarterfinalist Ajla Tomljanovic and doubles specialist Storm Sanders. Joining them are Astra Sharma, Ellen Perez and Olivia Gadecki. The Aussies will be captained by former World No.8 Alicia Molik.
