It was much tougher than she would have liked but the world number one is through to the 2nd round of
Roland Garros.
Ashleigh Barty faced stiff competition in Bernarda Pera for the 2nd round of Roland Garros but she was able to overcome struggled to win 6-4 3-6 6-2. Barty looked well in the opening set playing her game and keeping Pera at bay. It was enough for a 6-4 finish. The 2nd set was when the struggles began as she found herself down early in the set.
Pera was able to keep the lead for the entirety of the set and win it 6-3. After the set concluded Barty asked for a medical timeout and after a very lengthy treatment session she continued the match. The treatment seemed to work as Barty started playing a lot better in the 2nd set.
Barty retired in Rome due to an injury which she explained was a nagging one that pops up every once and a while. It will curious to see if it's the same injury or possibly a new one. Today it did not matter much as Barty was able to once again take control of the match in the 3rd and win it 6-2.
