Australian Open Women's Qualifying - 2nd Round round-up: Li stuns Bogdan to qualify for main draw, McNally and Fernandez on the brink

Friday, 17 January 2020 at 13:10

The Women's main draw line-up is close to being completed at the 2020 Australian Open with qualifying coming towards its conclusion.

One player that is already into the main draw is Ann Li who stunned top seed Ana Bogdan in order to qualify in a 5-7, 7-6, 6-2 win staving off two match points in the second set tiebreak.

The 2017 Wimbledon girls' runner up who is no.31 seed in qualifying showed her talent throughout her tie with Bogdan.

Joining her are fellow qualifiers Shelby Rogers, Harriet Dart and Martina Trevisan. The latter accounted for Eugenie Bouchard 6-4, 6-3 meaning that the Wimbledon finalist will not feature in the main draw for the first time since 2013 after showing such promise again in Auckland.

Caty McNally and Leylah Fernandez will get their opportunities to book their place in the Women's singles after victories over Daria Lopatetska and Maya Hibi respectively as the former in particular attempts to join her doubles partner Coco Gauff in the singles draw.
