Victoria Azarenka is the Western & Southern Open champion for the second time in her career after Naomi Osaka has withdrawn due to a left hamstring injury.
As a result, the final is now a walkover; and Azarenka has been handed a 21st title of her career and her first since Miami in 2016.
“I’m sorry to have to withdraw today with an injury,” Osaka said. “I pulled my left hamstring yesterday in the second set tiebreak; and it has not recovered overnight as I had hoped. This has been an emotional week; and I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support.”
In addition, this means that the schedule has been changed slightly; with the Women's Singles Trophy presentation; being followed by the Women's Doubles final. The Men's final will remain in it's scheduled position.
