Victoria Azarenka is through to the bett1 Open quarterfinal after defeating
Angelique Kerber 6-3 7-5.
It was a great match between two former number ones as Victoria Azarenka emerged victorious against Angelique Kerber. Azarenka put forward a solid effort especially late in the 2nd set to rally from down 3-5 to win 7-5. The first set was contested well by both players but Azarenka was more solid overall. She was decent on serve on both serves not allowing Kerber much.
The German had two break points but she failed to use either. Her 2nd serve was attacked repeatedly and she won only 3/10 points on it. The only break points she allowed proved costly as she lost the first set 6-3.
The 2nd set was much better by Kerber and you could argue she was the better player overall but Azarenka found a way to win it. Once again the 2nd serve of Kerber proved costly as she won only 2/9 points on it. She served well for the majority of the set but once her serving got worse late it was over.
Azarenka was down 3-5 but then went on a 4-0 game run to close out the match in straight sets. It was a very timely run for Azarenka who escaped with the set considering the level she showed.
