Paula Badosa and
Petra Kvitova scored straight-set wins at
Wimbledon to move on at the event and keep themselves in the running.
Badosa did not play that much grass tennis leading up to the Wimbledon opting to prepare away from the courts. The Spaniard is so far doing rather well at the event as she added another win today. It was a 6-3 6-2 win over Irina Bara from Romania who never troubled her seriously in this affair.
It was a 74-minute affair for Badosa who blasted 6 aces along with 22 winners to 20 unforced errors moving on to the next round. Bara did not play that well and she could not handle Badosa from the baseline committing 23 errors in this one.
Joining Badosa in the next round is Petra Kvitova who cruised early against another Romanian in Bogdan but complicated things majorly in the 2nd set. The first set was vintage Kvitova as she blasted numerous winners and several aces en route to the 6-1 opening set win. Kvitova continued to play well in the 2nd set as well jumping out to an early 2-0 lead.
She would later add another break to take a 5-1 lead. Then things started to get complicated for her. Kvitova was a bit careless and dropped her serve the first time she served for the match. The 2nd time around she even had a match point but faield to close it out. She then saved two set points down 5-6 and closed it out in the tiebreak 7-5.
