Barbora Krejcikova made a huge step forward in her career in 2021 and her effort has been recognized by the WTA with the Most Improved player of the year award.
The rise of Barbora Krejcikova in the past year has been a tremendous one to watch. The Czech player went from someone ranked outside the top 100 to being ranked inside the top 10 in a very short time and she has spoken about how that happened. When the pandemic started, Czech players were playing matches in their native countries and Krejcikova realized her level was very close to the top tennis player from her country.
It gave her motivation and confidence to work harder and the work paid off this year with the Czech player achieving quite a few things. She won her maiden grand slam title at the French Open and followed that up by winning the doubles title with Siniakova as well. She added three more WTA titles during the year which is another good singles feat.
She qualified for the WTA finals in both the singles and doubles winning the doubles event with Siniakova. She rose to her career-high singles ranking of number 3 while also being ranked in the top 10 of the doubles rankings as well. Quite an impressive year overall and the deserved award.
