Ashleigh Barty travelled home to Australia after the US Open electing to skip over several events including the Indian Wells Masters.
Barty, known for her love of Australia, endured a very long and gruelling season ever since she left home back in March. She elected to return home instead of playing more tennis and it's highly unlikely she will leave again to play more tennis in 2021. She pulled out of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals and while officially set to appear at the WTA finals as of now, it's widely expected that she does not play.
Upon arrival to Australia Barty was denied the possibility to undergo the mandatory quarantine back home, instead having to endure a two-week quarantine in a hotel. After complying with that she is now out of quarantine and back home with her family. Her coach Craig Tyzzer spoke on that saying:
“For travellers coming back, if you’re an Australian overseas, they don’t make it easy. You
can’t get flights, it’s ridiculously expensive and you’ve got to do two
weeks’ quarantine in a hotel where you can’t open windows."
He also revealed the stressfull nature of Tour Life during the pandemic:
“You get tested basically the same amounts in the tournaments, both players and their teams. So we were up to 68 when Ash left for London and I left to come home to Australia. It’s part of what we had to put up with this year. It’s not much fun."
