The Wimbledon champion will look to extend her great form lately to the hard courts where she will hope of winning a gold medal for Australia. Sitting down and talking with ITF Barty said:
“Being an Olympian has always been a dream of mine as a kid, I think representing your country is the highest honour. For an Aussie, it’s the best thing you can do and I can’t wait to have an opportunity to wear the green and gold."
Barty will be one of the favourites at the event considering her current form and level displayed in 2021. Her biggest disappointment came at the Australian Open where she lost to Muchova in three sets on the surface that awaits her in Tokyo.
For Barty individual success at the Olympics is not as important as representing Australia:
“You’re playing for something bigger than yourself. You’re playing to represent your nation. You’re playing to make people proud and that’s
not just with results, it’s with your attitude."
She also candidly admitted of dreaming about being on the podium. She said:
“You have to dream (of being on the podium). It’s a spine-tingling
feeling but you have to dream. You have to dare to dream and I think you have to allow yourself to think ‘what if’ and ‘why not me’. It would be
a dream come true.”
